Reading Daily helps boast reading comprehension

Reading daily helps boast reading comprehension skills. Kids whose parents read to them even if it is just for thirty minutes a night do much better decoding and comprehending story ideas and elements. Early reading is so important to do with your children on a daily basis. I love to read with my boys every night and I let them pick the books which makes it even more of a treat because they feel in charge of their learning. Just thirty minutes of reading a night can improve the fluency and comprehension of your children. It is great to read to your children so they can hear fluency and proper diction but it is also beneficial to allow readers to read aloud to you so you can help them if they stumble or mispronounce words. Allowing children to read to you also builds their confidence and helps them gain fluency and builds comprehension skills. Something I like to do while reading with my boys is ask them the four W’s of reading in a story, WHO, WHAT, WHEN, and WHERE. This is a very important to help them foster critical reading comprehension skills they will need as they become a more fluid reader. Reading can allow you mind to really wander and be imaginative. Try to read different genres to your children. Recently when have been reading Shel Silverstein Where the Sidewalk Ends and you can allow your child to make up their own poems at the end. Allow reading to be a fun learning journey. If you need help with reading skills allow Tidewater Tutors to help you enhance and build.
